Robert M. Lewen, M.D. is a board certified Ophthalmologist specializing in Diseases and Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous. Dr. Lewen’s area of expertise includes diagnosis and treatment of diabetic eye disease, age related macular degeneration, and retinal detachments. He earned his M.D. from Chicago Medical School in 1980. He completed his internship in medicine, his residency in ophthalmology, and his fellowship in vitreo-retinal service at Tulane University in New Orleans. Dr. Lewen is Director of Retinal Services at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA.

Prior to his arrival at Allegheny General Hospital in 1989, Dr. Lewen was Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Retina Service at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
