Ophthalmology Sub-specialty: Glaucoma & Anterior Segment

Dr. Karen Lauer is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Drexel University College of Medicine and Director of the Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Service at Allegheny General Hospital.

Dr. Lauer received a combined Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine Degree from Pennsylvania State University and Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in 1986. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where she served as Chief Resident. A Research Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh was followed by a Clinical Cornea and Glaucoma Fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital in 1991. She is a member of Pittsburgh Ophthalmology Society, American Academy of Ophthalmology, PA Medical Society, PA Academy of Ophthalmology, American Glaucoma Society and serves on the Board of Blind and Visual Rehabilitation Services.

Dr. Lauer has remained as a partner at Allegheny Ophthalmic and Orbital Associates since her fellowship and specializes in glaucoma and cataract surgery. She and her husband, Harrison, have three children, and enjoy hiking, travel, golf and swimming.
